Rana Dynasty: Part 4

Rana Dynasty

The End of Rana Rule

The end of the Rana rule in Nepal came after a long period of protests, movements, and growing dissatisfaction among the people. By 1950, the people of Nepal were ready for change. They were tired of the Ranas’ harsh rule and wanted a government that would listen to them. The Nepali Congress, King Tribhuvan, and the people worked together to bring an end to the Ranas' control.

In 1950, King Tribhuvan left Nepal and went to India. He did this to escape the Ranas' control and to gather support for ending the Rana regime. King Tribhuvan was an important figure in the movement because he represented the monarchy that the Ranas had pushed aside. His escape to India was a big step towards ending the Rana rule because it showed that even the king did not support the Ranas.

While in India, King Tribhuvan worked closely with the Nepali Congress and the Indian government. They planned how to overthrow the Ranas and bring democracy to Nepal. The Nepali Congress organised protests and armed revolts within Nepal. They wanted to show the Ranas that their time was over and that the people of Nepal were ready to fight for their freedom.

The protests in Nepal grew stronger, and the Nepali Congress gained more support from the people. The Ranas tried to control the situation by making some changes, but it was not enough. They offered to share some power, but the people wanted more. They wanted the Ranas completely out of power. The Nepali Congress and King Tribhuvan were determined to bring about real change.

Finally, in 1951, after much pressure, the Ranas agreed to step down. King Tribhuvan returned to Nepal as the ruler, but this time with real power. The Ranas’ rule was officially over, and a new government was formed that included members of the Nepali Congress. This new government was called a coalition government, where power was shared between the king, the Nepali Congress, and some Ranas.

The end of the Rana rule marked the beginning of a new era for Nepal. For the first time in over 100 years, the people had a voice in their government. The end of the Ranas also opened the door to democracy in Nepal. Although it would take more time and struggle to fully establish a democratic system, the fall of the Ranas was a big first step.

King Tribhuvan promised to work towards making Nepal a democratic country where the people could choose their leaders. The Nepali Congress also promised to keep fighting for the rights of the people. There was a lot of hope and excitement in Nepal at this time. People were happy that the Ranas were no longer in power, and they looked forward to a brighter future.

The end of the Rana rule was a victory for the people of Nepal. It showed that when people come together and fight for their rights, they can bring about change. The Ranas had ruled with an iron fist for a long time, but in the end, the power of the people was stronger. This was a time of great change in Nepal, and it set the stage for the country to move towards democracy and progress.
