Rana Dynasty Ranas in the Present Time Today, the Ranas are no longer in power, but their history is still an important part of Nepal’s past. After the end of their rule in 1951, the Ranas lost most of their political power, but they remained wealthy and influential in some ways. Many Ranas continued to live in Nepal, while others moved to different countries. Although they do not control the government anymore, some Ranas still hold important positions in business and society.
